Experimental broadband absorption enhancement in silicon nanohole structures with optimized complex unit cells.
We design silicon membranes with nanohole structures with optimized complex unit cells that maximize broadband absorption. We fabricate the optimized design and measure the optical absorption. We demonstrate an experimental broadband absorption about 3.5 times higher than an equally-thick thin film.
متن کاملBroadband light absorption enhancement in thin-film silicon solar cells.
Currently, the performances of thin film solar cells are limited by poor light absorption and carrier collection. In this research, large, broadband, and polarization-insensitive light absorption enhancement was realized via integrating with unique metallic nanogratings. Through simulation, three possible mechanisms were identified to be responsible for such an enormous enhancement. A test for ...
متن کاملLight Absorption Enhancement of Silicon-Based Photovoltaic Devices with Multiple Bandgap Structures of Porous Silicon
Porous-silicon (PS) multi-layered structures with three stacked PS layers of different porosity were prepared on silicon (Si) substrates by successively tuning the electrochemical-etching parameters in an anodization process. The three PS layers have different optical bandgap energy and construct a triple-layered PS (TLPS) structure with multiple bandgap energy. Photovoltaic devices were fabric...
متن کاملBroadband Silicon Electro-Optic Absorption Modulator
Here we propose a design for a broadband electro-optic absorption modulator. The device is simply a 50μm long silicon waveguide with integrated Schottky diodes. It achieves 64% modulation depth up to at least 10 Gb/s. 2008 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (130.3120) Integrated optics devices; (230.2090) Electro-optical devices; (230.4110) Modulators
متن کاملBroadband absorption enhancement in randomly positioned silicon nanowire arrays for solar cell applications.
In this Letter, the optical properties of randomly positioned silicon nanowire arrays are studied. The result shows that position randomization with a filling ratio larger than 36% renders better absorptance over a broadband ranging from 300 to 1130 nm compared to regular structures. The ultimate efficiency of a 48% filling ratio position randomized nanowire structure is 13.4% higher compared t...
